SIA licence check record. A printable record of checking an officer's SIA licence — the number, the sector, the expiry, what the public register said and when you looked.

This is the paper version. SecureOptix does the same job on a phone, with the record filed against the assignment and the officer automatically.

What is on the sheet

  • Officer name, the licence number and the sector or sectors it covers
  • Expiry date, and the date you checked the register rather than the date on the card
  • What the register showed, including any status other than active
  • Whether the licence covers the work the officer is actually deployed on
  • Physical card seen, photograph matched, and whether it is being worn as required
  • A re-check date well ahead of expiry, and who is responsible for acting on it

Why this record matters

A licence is a deployment condition, not a filing matter. Licensable work carried out by somebody without a valid licence is an offence, and the exposure sits with the individual and the company — which makes this the single most consequential routine check in the trade.

The register is the source, not the card. A card shows what was true when it was printed; licences are suspended and revoked, and the only answer that counts is what the register says today. The form asks for the date you checked for exactly that reason.

Sector is the field people skip. A licence is issued for a sector, and deploying an officer on work their licence does not cover is the same problem as deploying them unlicensed — but it looks like compliance on a spreadsheet that only tracks expiry dates.

Expiry is an operational problem long before it is a compliance one. A licence expiring on a Friday is a shift nobody can cover from Saturday, and a re-check date set well ahead is the difference between a planned renewal and an uncovered post.
